| RA 10 SPRAIRE LADS 0 sun 25th sep 2005 After 2 cup games the ra juniors finally played their first league game of the season against local rivals spraire lads. The game started at a fast pace and after only 5 minutes Tom Watson was put clean through on goal and finished well to give the RA an early lead, 3 minutes later a second goal for the RA and a second for Tom Watson, a dream start for the brinkburn boys! The RA began to pile on the pressure with further chances , a cross from Jack Ridley ending up rebounding of the spraire crossbar being the best chance. After 15 minutes a fantastic shot from Lewis Harrison was saved well by the Spraire keeper only for Tom Watson to follow in from the rebound to complete his hat-trick. Four minutes later an RA corner was turned in at the back post by Craig Hancock to make the score 4-0. By this time the RA were cruising. Following yet another RA corner a goalmouth scramble was finally turned in by Jack Ridley. With 3 minutes to go before half time a Callum Franklin corner was turned powerfully by Kiel “the bullet” Mellor .
Two quick goals inside the first 2 minutes of the second half from the deadly duo Tom and Jack finished off Spraire with the score now 8-0. After 53 minutes Tom Watson took on 2 Spraire defenders and Jack Ridley pounced on the loose ball to finish under the Spraire keeper. Seven minutes later Jack was sent through on goal and finished well chipping over the keeper and tapping into the open goal. In the last twenty minutes the early fast pace and substitutions slowed the game down and there were few chances, but the RA had done more than enough to record a 10-0 victory. This was an outstanding start to the league campaign and if the RA keep up this form then another title challenge is on the cards.
